October 22, 2022 || Wedding at Monona Terrace in Madison, WI
As a team of Wisconsin wedding photographers, we know how important it is to feel confident in your photographer—especially when you’re planning from out of state. From the moment Mackenzie inquired, we knew her wedding to Greg would be something special. She mentioned our mix of posed and natural photos was exactly what they were looking for, and it was such a joy to help bring their vision to life at Monona Terrace.
Mackenzie and Greg met while studying physics at UW-Madison and later moved to Ann Arbor for their PhDs. Mackenzie is studying applied physics (NASA, are you listening?). Greg works with plasma physics and lasers. Smart, kind, and full of quiet charm, these two bring out the best in each other—and made our job easy with how naturally they connect on camera.
Greg proposed on a camping trip to The Arch, making it official after Mackenzie moved to Ann Arbor. While they had already decided to get married, the proposal was still filled with love and intention. Just like the rest of their story.
Their vision was simple: a celebration with the people they love. They leaned into fall colors—marigold, cinnamon, and wine—and filled their spaces with seasonal florals, pumpkins, and cozy details (no burlap in sight!). Mackenzie described the day as joyful and relaxed. We were thrilled to help them create a stress-free timeline that kept everything flowing smoothly.
Their bouquets included hops (a fun personal touch!), and their favors were homemade jams made by Mackenzie’s parents. DIY elements also included a floral arch built by the bride’s dad, a wine box made by the groom’s dad, and hand-knitted wraps from Greg’s mom. It was a celebration infused with love and intention at every turn.
As Mackenzie shared, “Ali was very organized and helped us put together a detailed timeline, including all the shots we wanted—like extended family photos during cocktail hour!”
One of the best parts of the day? Taking portraits around the Capitol building—just a short walk from Monona Terrace. With two photographers on-site, we split up when needed and made the most of the vibrant fall light. Mackenzie said it best: “Ali’s bubbly personality helped us relax in front of the camera, and her style of posed and natural photos was exactly what we were looking for.”
Later, we stepped out for golden sunset portraits and glowing nighttime photos with the Capitol twinkling behind them—some of their favorites from the day.
Since Mackenzie and Greg live out of state, we took their engagement photos during a chilly, windy April trip back to Wisconsin. “Even though it was cold and windy, our engagement photos turned out great!” she said. We pride ourselves on creating a relaxed, joyful experience regardless of the weather.
From a personalized intro video at inquiry to fast gallery delivery, we kept communication open and the process smooth. “The turnaround time was impressive—we had portraits in a week and our full wedding gallery in three!” Mackenzie said. That’s the kind of experience we aim for every time.
“You’ll get a million pieces of advice—but you don’t have to follow any of it if it doesn’t feel right for you!” Wise words we wholeheartedly agree with.
