As a Milwaukee wedding photography team, with over 200 weddings photographed we love when a couple brings personality, emotion, and just the right amount of goofiness to their day. Kathryn and Mitch’s wedding was all of that and more—laid-back, joyful, and packed with heartfelt moments. With the backdrop of fall color and a future rooted in Milwaukee, their celebration felt like the perfect beginning to forever.

Meet Kathryn + Mitch

Kathryn and Mitch met in Lansing, Michigan, where Kathryn works as a teacher. They describe themselves as a little awkward, a lot goofy, and completely perfect for each other. Whether they’re making each other laugh or heading off on adventures, they’re a laid-back couple who doesn’t take life—or themselves—too seriously.

The Proposal

Their love story includes a special place in Colorado, where they took their first trip together in 2016. On a return visit, they tried to find the same mountain overlook. While Kathryn gazed off into the distance, Mitch got down on one knee behind her. He nervously waited for her to turn around. When she finally did, he proposed, and the moment was just as perfect (even if they weren’t 100% sure it was the original spot!).

Wedding Vision & Planning

Their vision for the day was simple: time with family, celebration with friends, and the beauty of fall on full display. They picked September for its crisp weather and warm tones, and chose Milwaukee as the city they hope to call home. The idea of returning to their wedding location in the future made the choice even more meaningful.

All the Details

With help from wedding coordinator Renee Breanne, they worked with Poppy Flowers to bring together a romantic mix of blush, maroon, and rich greenery. Kathryn found her dress at Becker’s Bridal in Lansing while surrounded by her close family. As for the reception treat? Gigi’s cupcakes—because Mitch is a firm believer that cupcakes > cake.

Throughout the day, we captured everything. From those emotional in-between moments to fun, candid shots that reflected their energy. We even managed to sneak in some relaxed portraits that blended soft posing with natural, joyful interacting.

Making the Day Feel Effortless

Our role wasn’t just about taking pretty pictures—it was about keeping things smooth, easy, and fun. Whether it was helping with the timeline, scouting the best light for portraits, or grabbing a quick candids between toasts, we aimed to create space for Mitch and Kathryn to fully enjoy the day.

“Take a moment to truly enjoy your engagement before jumping into wedding planning! We also created a wedding-only email and kept planning talks to one day a week in the early stages. It helped keep things organized and stress-free!”
