Kaylee and Derek’s journey began back in college, where they knew each other as acquaintances. Derek later moved to Tennessee for a few years, and when he returned to Wisconsin, Facebook alerted Kaylee. They met up for drinks to catch up, and shortly after, Derek asked Kaylee out on their first date. The rest, as they say, is history!
Together, this fun-loving and extroverted couple enjoys watching sports, TV shows, and movies. They also love their date nights out together, making memories with each other.
Derek proposed the weekend before Christmas in a way that Kaylee will never forget. The couple was hosting some of Kaylee’s out-of-town family for an early Christmas celebration. After all the gifts were opened, Derek told everyone that they had one last present from his family to open. He had arranged for his parents and sister to join via FaceTime to watch Kaylee open the gift. While everyone else received blank cards, Kaylee’s card read, “Will you marry me?”
Derek got down on one knee, promised to love Kaylee forever, and asked her to be his wife. Overcome with emotion, Kaylee said yes! Then, in a beautiful surprise, Derek’s parents walked in, having been waiting outside to join the celebration. To make it even more special, Kaylee’s best friend also walked in to share in the joy. The evening turned into a spontaneous engagement party with family and close friends—truly the perfect moment to begin their journey together.
Ever since she was a little girl, Kaylee had always envisioned a fairy-tale wedding—a romantic celebration with her Prince Charming. Her dream was coming true in every way on her wedding day!
Kaylee chose a pastel color palette for her May wedding. The wedding colors were light blue, eucalyptus green, and white, perfectly reflecting the soft elegance she envisioned for her day.
The wedding style was timeless and classic, starting with Kaylee’s engagement ring, a classic princess-cut diamond. Her wedding dress was a ball gown, adding a few special details that made her feel like royalty. The flowers, chosen to complement the dress, were all white with lush eucalyptus greenery, adding an elegant pop to both the ceremony and reception spaces.
Since Derek and Kaylee aren’t huge cake fans, they decided to serve donuts at their reception. However, they did have a small, simple white wedding cake for their cake-cutting moment. The reception hall, designed to feel like a ballroom, created the perfect romantic atmosphere for their special day.
Kaylee wasn’t particularly into DIY, but she did create and design their wedding guest book, which she’s very proud of. It featured some of their stunning engagement photos, letting their guests relive the beautiful moments captured by Ali. At the reception, they had custom napkins to mark their new status as Mr. and Mrs., and a “Derek <3 Kaylee” sign that added a personal touch to both the ceremony and reception.
One of the most exciting surprises for their guests was the light-up dance floor, which no one knew about until the reception. Derek and Kaylee also planned to use four cold spark machines during their grand entrance and first dance, adding a dazzling effect to the celebration. They also had a photo booth to capture fun memories with their loved ones.
