Congratulations!! You’re pregnant and your family is expanding by ten fingers and ten toes 🙂 There are so many session types to pick from when it comes to documenting your new family member that it can be confusing. I’m here to help!
During your third trimester, usually between 32 and 36 weeks is the perfect time to capture your growing baby belly with a maternity portrait session. Maternity sessions typically include photos of you individually, as well as a few photos with your significant other and family.
Fresh 48 sessions take place within the first 48 hours of your baby’s birth. These sessions are located in your room of the maternity ward at your hospital. Fresh 48 sessions provide memories of the first days of your child’s life. Newborns are not posed, instead babies and families are captured as you are.
Newborn lifestyle sessions provide images of your baby and family in your home. These images illustrate and preserve the memory of how you really were together as a family in those precious first days.
Instead of posing the baby and family members, these sessions are relaxed and allow for photos that capture your natural connection.
The ideal age for a newborn during this session is older than two weeks. This increases their interaction with the family.
Lifestyle newborn sessions may include activities such as giving your newborn a bath or reading them a book. Feel free to generate your own suggestions for what activities you would like to capture.
All family members are included within these sessions.
Posed newborn photography sessions capture your beautiful new baby in their first weeks of life. The ideal time to take these photos is when your child is six to ten days old. However, the photos can be done later as well.
Newborn photos will be taken in the comfort of your own home so that your baby has similar smells, sounds, and sights. Newborn sessions usually last from two to four hours so there is plenty of time for feedings and cuddles.
Sessions produce the best photos when your baby is calm, comfortable, and feels safe. A warm and quiet environment works the best. White noise may be played during the photo sessions
Most posed photos are taken while the baby is asleep. To produce ideal sleeping baby conditions consider dressing your newborn in non-restrictive clothing such as a loose diaper, and snuggled with blankets. Onesies are often difficult to get on and off, and the process of doing so usually wakes a sleeping baby. If possible feeding your baby just before their session time, also allows for content and sleepy newborns.
Newborn posed sessions will capture moments of your baby posed with swaddling blankets or sleeping in a basket. Gently posing and comforting your baby will take a lot of time during the two to four-hour session. Family members will also be photographed with your new addition. Our goal is to create timeless photos of your family and new baby.
I have different prop options for you to choose from. If you have an item or heirloom you would like to include in your session, please feel free to let me know.
Capture your child’s first-year milestones, with these baby-only milestone sessions. Clients often choose milestones based on month increments (three months, six months, nine months, twelve months) or on physical development milestones (head and chest lifted, sitting unassisted, and standing unassisted).
Cake smash photo sessions celebrate your child on their first birthday. These sessions include portraits of only your child. They are taken before, during, and after the eating of their smash cake. Cake smash sessions include a cake and are often themed or coordinated to the colors of your choosing. If your child hasn’t eaten cake before consider having them test a cupcake a few days before their session.
