What to Wear for Winter Portrait Sessions | Milwaukee, WI

Christmas Tree Mini Sessions Hartford WI

Wisconsin winters are unpredictable! Winter portrait sessions are stunning, but it is extremely important to dress appropriately for the occasion. This is especially true when planning outfits for your little ones! The following tips on what to wear for winter portraits will help make your session beautiful AND enjoyable.

WEAR LAYERS

Wear ALL of the layers you can without looking bulky for your winter portrait session!

Try wearing a thermal shirt under a cute, but thick sweater. Add fleece-lined leggings or tights under your dark wash jeans. These are a great way to get a few undetectable layers on.

BRING A HAT + MITTENS

Coordinate hats, headbands, and mittens! Finding cold weather essentials that match your outfits, is a cute way to protect you from feeling chilly!

COORDINATE COATS

Winter vests or stylish coats that coordinate with your outfits will keep you warmer than just layers itself. Especially, if you really young kids.

BRING A BLANKET

Blankets not only will keep your warm, but they also are a great photo prop for your winter portrait session! Sitting on the blanket tickling one another or wrapping to keep warm are all great ways to capture your loving interactions. Kids love playing games with the blankets such as peek-a-boo or London bridge.

Just make sure the blanket you choose coordinates with your family’s outfit colors!

KEEP YOUR FEET WARM

Plan cute, but WARM shoes for winter sessions. Once your feet are cold, there isn’t much we can do to warm them up during your session! So extra thick socks, a warm pair of shoes, and maybe even foot warmers can all help make your session more enjoyable!
